More information is available in the
Parent and Student Handbook.
Important Note:

Arrival Information

The school building is open to students at 8:55 A.M., unless they are involved in the breakfast program. Teachers will be in their rooms to let students in at that time. Students who walk to school should not arrive until 8:55, and upon arrival, all students should walk to their classrooms unless they are tardy. If tardy, students should report to the office first in order to receive a late pass to class.

School Crossings

Adults will be assisting at the crosswalk near Eaglefield Drive and Champions Drive and at the first crosswalk west of the school entrance on Eaglefield Drive. Students are asked to walk on the south sidewalk along Eaglefield Drive for their safety. Upon entering school property, students will walk only on the sidewalks, not in the parking lots or on the street. Students who are walking are to use the cement walkways and refrain from walking on the road, parking lots, grass areas, shortcuts, or neighbors’ property.

Bicycles, Scooters, and Skateboards

Bicycles, scooters, and skateboards are to be walked on cement walkways on the school grounds in order to avoid injuries. For bicycles, students should walk them to and from the bicycle racks and lock them there. We recommend that all students riding bicycles, scooters, and skateboards wear a safety helmet.

Books

Classroom and library books should be treated with respect at all times. Books must be returned in good condition except for normal wear. The student is responsible for replacement costs if a book is damaged or lost and not returned at the end of the year. Final report cards will be held until needed payments have been made.

Dismissal Routines

We request that when picking up your children at dismissal time; please do so in front of the school. School dismisses at 3:40 P.M. If you are picking your child up from school, we ask that you wait until 3:40. All students not picked up by 3:55 will be taken to the office. Otherwise, students are to leave the school area when school is dismissed. There will be no supervision provided by the school unless students are part of an organized after school activity.

Students riding the bus will load buses at the northwest side of the building. Parents may not pick children up from school in any area near the school buses. Staff supervising the loading of buses have radios. If you happen to be late, go to the front office and the staff will be radioed. They will remove your child from the bus and send them to the office. Please cooperate with us to ensure the safety of all students.

Please avoid picking your child up early, as instruction continues until 3:40 each day. Please wait at the student pick-up area in front of the school until your child arrives there shortly after 3:40. Thank you for your cooperation.

PTSA (Parent/Teacher/Student Association)

To encourage parent participation in our school, Pioneer Elementary has scheduled their night meetings as published in the Arlington School District Calendar and on the PTSA web page. PTSA provides opportunities for parental participation during the school day: room parent, classroom volunteer, make-and take-it volunteer, field trip supervisor, etc. The PTSA also sponsors informational meetings. PTSA encourages direct involvement in our school. It sponsors a variety of community wide projects to help foster citizenship and pride in our students. If you have any questions, please contact our PTSA Co-Presidents: Heather & Trae Brown, through the school at 360-618-6230.

Reporting to Parents

Pioneer Elementary School is on a trimester reporting schedule. Report cards will come out three times per year. In October there will be goal setting parent conferences. These conferences are intended to give you an opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher and set academic goals as well as give you an introduction to your s child’s school year. Parent conferences will also be held in late March/early April to discuss your child’s academic progress.

Staff Expectations and Responsibilities

1. The staff at Pioneer Elementary will teach student expectations and responsible behavior in every school environment. The staff will encourage students to take responsibility for their learning, act in a safe and healthy way, respect the rights and needs of others, and treat all property with respect.

2. The staff at Pioneer Elementary will provide positive feedback to students when they are meeting expectations and following school and classroom rules.

3. The staff at Pioneer Elementary will, when a minor misbehavior occurs, view the misbehavior as a teaching opportunity, responding with calm, consistent corrections or consequences.

4. The staff at Pioneer Elementary will work collaboratively to solve problems that are chronic or severe in nature.

Establishing a plan that promotes responsibility and discipline is an ongoing process, not a one-time effort. The procedures and beliefs stated in this plan will not ensure school discipline or individual responsibility. It will, however, facilitate the process. The staff at Pioneer Elementary must work continuously to achieve as much consistency as possible and be prepared to revise and adapt the procedures as needed. To keep the process alive, staff will meet on a regular basis; seek input from staff, parents and students on possible improvements; and facilitate a yearly review of the procedures.
